New Orleans, LA

I didn't intend to stay in a haunted hotel at all during our vacation in New Orleans, that is, it wasn't something I went and sought out. I am absolutely weary about staying overnight in any place that is known to have paranormal activity, with how I am known to react to energies and especially with my daughter in tow! Alas, these spirits find ways to find me, even sometimes from far away. Do you ever have that feeling of when you see a picture of a place, you are immediately drawn to it? That was the way of The Bienville House.

Although Harmony was not with me during this week, I kept up communication with her as I always do. In many ways, she is always with me, connected in energy. Therefore, I feel like these events qualify for this blog. In case anyone wanted to argue ;)

Our first impression of The Bienville House exceeded all expectations. A beautiful boutique hotel built on the foundation of businesses long past, the place took our breathe away. The staff quickly became my most favorite people in all of the French Quarter, so much so that I felt like we had been long-time friends and looked forward to seeing them throughout the days. Through a pair of antique french doors, our room opened to a stunning balcony view of a private pool and a glimpse of Port Orleans just beyond the horizon. Our first night in the FQ was spent out and about, enjoying the city, so we didn't spend much time in the room itself. When we did get back, we were down in the pool for a considerable time. I honestly didn't notice any kind of paranormal activity, perhaps because I didn't believe there would be any at this point.

The next morning was quite different, however. It was a lazy morning on purpose and we took our time getting dressed for the day. I sunbathed a little on the balcony and set my Tarot cards and crystals out to soak up some New Orleans sun. I decided to go downstairs to check out the breakfast options, leaving my daughter in the room to finish getting ready.

I found myself waiting at the 2nd floor elevator with an elderly gentleman that I assumed to be another guest. He smiled politely when the doors opened and allowed me to step in first. He politely asked which floor I was going to and pressed the button for the first floor when I answered him. The elevator shook to life but instead of moving down, we went up to the 3rd floor. Neither of us were surprised at this as the elevator was always busy, being the only one in the building. The door opened and Louis, one of the hotel staff stepped in, smiling. Louis was my very first encounter at The Bienville House. He was right there to greet and take care of us as soon as we pulled into the valet, offering to unload luggage and usher us into the lobby, all smiles and laughs. His presence was always one of happiness and this time was no different. He gave us both a "good morning" and the elevator door closed.

After a few brief shudders, we once again found ourselves on the 2nd floor. Exchanging looks of exasperation, we shuffled around in an attempt to make room for more bodies. However, there were no bodies waiting to join us. The doors opened to emptiness, stayed open for a moment, then closed again.

The elderly gentleman spoke first, "Must be a ghost." We let out a chuckle, all accept for Louis. He simply smiled and said,"I felt him get on just now," and pointed to the empty space directly in front of him. The elderly gentleman replied, "Well, now there's only enough room for two more," indicating the elevator capacity sign of "6". We let out another chuckle, Louis nodded and we were once again on the move.

I suddenly realized that I hadn't even thought to seek out specters in the hotel, oddly enough. Maybe because I wanted to simply enjoy a vacation, free from distractions. I took this opportunity to try and sense something. I knew Louis wasn't kidding and as staff member, I'm sure he is well acquainted with extra energies lurking about.

As soon as the thought came, I sensed exactly what Louis was talking about...not what, but who. An entity, whom I sensed was a man, stood just ahead of Louis, staring at the elevator door as we all were. When we landed on the 1st floor, the doors opened, and the energy exited as if it were a perfectly normal thing to do!

In the breakfast area, I swiftly filled my arms with whatever foods I could grab (it all looked amazing) and got myself back up to the room. My daughter was still getting ready, as teenagers often do, and I set out to do some investigating.

I grabbed my pendulum to communicate and my phone to record the events. Beginning the video, I was thinking in my mind that I wanted to show Harmony this later to prove that the energies were present. My pendulum was already swinging wildly in a circle and I began to explain out loud that I came peacefully and that I'm recording the events to show that the energy was real. At these words, my pendulum immediately changed direction and now was giving a resounding "NO" by way of swaying back and forth. The air changed immediately and I sensed that what was once an inviting energy was now wanting me gone. I was not at all prepared to take this specter head-on as I usually do and again, with my daughter there, I wasn't going to take any chances and risk endangering or scaring her. We immediately packed our things and said goodbye to The Bienville House...at least until we visit again in October!
