EMM & HARMONY

MAY 4TH

with SPECIAL GUEST

Melodie Hill

Cheyenne, WY

The historic Plains Hotel was built in 1911 as easily the most decadent hotel in Cheyenne. Meant to attract the wealthiest of residents and travelers, they spared no expense on the 5-story building, in the heart of the city's downtown. The Plains featured a grand ballroom, a stained glass skylit lobby, it's own bar, a central marble staircase, rich mahogany and leather furniture, phones in each guest room, private bathrooms and brass beds. The guests included a variety of oil barons, wealthy ranchers, Army officers and tourists headed to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.

When we first planned on visiting The Plains, we came across the story of a deadly love triangle that occurred at the hotel many years before. As the most famous spirits said to haunt the grounds, Harmony and I intended to make them the focus of our investigation that night. Once inside, our work began and we encountered an unexpected turn of events. Among the squeaky doors and creaking floorboards, other sounds of the past still exist within the historic hotel.

To be honest, the night began slowly, with little to no actual activity. We could sense spirits all around us, though, energies that could be felt around every corner. Our room was on the third floor, not known for it's activity but we were at least between the two floors that we notable hot spots. We decided to begin with Harmony and Mel taking a short tour of our floor as I went downstairs to the lobby.

According to live video footage, Harmony and Mel located a particularly interesting chair situated at an ice machine nook, just down the hall. Although they are many chairs throughout the hotel, and some much more lavish, this one drew in both women, inviting them to sit. Harmony went first and the look upon her face as she immediately sat down was one I will never forget. Her breathing changed and it was obvious that something, or someone, had left a lingering impression in that chair or maybe, hadn't left at all.

As we gathered back in the room and settled in, we began to call on any energies that were lingering, and more importantly, willing to communicate. The room was eerily quiet, the only sounds coming from the traffic outside. Then suddenly I felt something just to the right of Harmony and I as we sat on the bed. I felt movement but didn't see anything, didn't hear anything. My mind had been playing tricks on me already, my sense of time was warped...maybe my sense of everything else was also. Harmony called out,"Can you knock for us?", no sound, no knock. We called out more, the same result. I decided to move into the bathroom, leaving Harmony and Mel in the bedroom area. What happened next still chills me to my bones.

Frustrated, I walked into the bathroom, saying out loud, "Alright, motherf*ckers, let's do this," and sat down. Within seconds, a loud "SSSHHHH!" came from directly behind me on my right side. Trying to make sense of the noise, I whipped around. My first thought was that it was maybe an air freshener bottle or even the sound that a cushioned toilet seat cover makes when releasing air.

I jumped back out into hallway, looking around frantically, desperately searching for the light switch. Once I flicked it on, I surveyed the bathroom with wide eyes. No air freshener, no toilet seat cover. It was as if everything in the room was exactly as it should be. I quickly called Harmony

and Mel into the bathroom, telling them to bring the pendulum board.

Immediately after they entered, they knew exactly what I was talking about.

We situated ourselves to continue the investigation in the tiny bathroom, Harmony

sitting on the floor with the pendulum board, Mel standing next to her and leaning

on the sink and myself sitting opposite on the edge of the bathtub.

The energy was not intense at first, offering little in the way of pendulum

movement but after some encouragement on our part, we began to get some

answers.Through a series of number and letter acknowledgements, we learned that

the energy we were communicating with was a woman, around her mid to late 30's

and at one point, a guest at the Plains Hotel around the 1970's. A stay during which

she would spend the last moments of her life.

Suddenly, a small flash of light emanated in the hallway in front of the bathroom, so

small and quick that my mind barely had time to register what I'd seen. We waited,

breathless, for a few moments....another small flash of light. This time, it was

Harmony that caught sight of it.

At this point, I felt a strong pull of energy from the same direction I'd heard the

shushing sound just minutes before. Oddly enough, it was from the opposite end of

tub, where the faucet and knobs were. This deemed an unusual place for a source

of energy. Harmony suggested that perhaps the young woman's death happened in the shower? If so, why from the direction of the faucet? At this moment, a sudden knowledge washed over me. The energy wasn't coming from the room we were in but from the other side of the wall. We had come here expecting to find histories of deceit, jealousy, murder and suicide. A sadness came over us as we contemplated our findings, that this woman's still young life was brought to an end due to natural causes, something she herself did not expect.

We said our condolences to her, sent her our blessings, packed up our things and left.

We have not set foot in the hotel since...
